What to watch in April 2017

Can you believe its already April!? Here’s a list of cool movies being released in April that you should watch.

1. The Boss Baby

This film is brought to you by Dreamworks Animation and the director of Madagascar. This is going to be a good one, I can feel it!

South African release date: 07 April 2017

Genre: Comedy/Animation

Synopsis: A new baby’s arrival impacts a family, told from the point of view of a delightfully unreliable narrator — a wildly imaginative 7-year-old named Tim. The most unusual Boss Baby (Alec Baldwin) arrives at Tim’s home in a taxi, wearing a suit and carrying a briefcase. The instant sibling rivalry must soon be put aside when Tim discovers that Boss Baby is actually a spy on a secret mission.


2. Gold

One of the posters says, “BASED ON A TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE STORY”. I mean, that got me hooked.

Genre: Crime Adventure

Synopsis: Kenny Wells, a prospector desperate for a lucky break, teams up with a similarly eager geologist and sets off on an amazing journey to find gold in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia. Getting the gold was hard but keeping it is even more difficult, sparking an adventure through the most powerful boardrooms of Wall Street.


3. Fate of the Furious

Personally, I feel like this franchise has just to many sequels however it does crazy well in the box office. So they’re doing something right.

South African release date: 14 April 2017

Genre: Action Adventure

Synopsis: Now that Dom (Vin Diesel) and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) are on their honeymoon, Brian and Mia have retired from the game, and the rest of the crew has been exonerated, the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman seduces Dom back into a world of crime that he can’t seem to escape, the crew will face trials that will test them as never before.


4. Table 19

This film got a few negative reviews in the States after its release so don’t go watching it with high expectations. The synopsis, however, makes me want to watch it now.

South African release date: 21 April 2017

Genre: Comedy

Synopsis: Ex-maid of honor Eloise – having been relieved of her duties after being unceremoniously dumped by the best man via text – decides to hold her head high and attend her oldest friend’s wedding anyway. She finds herself seated at the random table in the back of the ballroom with a disparate group of strangers, most of whom should have known to just send regrets.

5. Silence

This film is directed by thee Martin Scorsese. SAY NO MORE.

South African release date: 21 April 2017

Genre: Historical Drama

Synopsis: Two 17th-century Portuguese missionaries, Father Sebastian Rodrigues (Andrew Garfield) and Father Francisco Garupe (Adam Driver), embark on a perilous journey to Japan to find their missing mentor (Liam Neeson). While there, the two men minister to the Christian villagers who worship in secret. If caught by feudal lords or ruling samurai, they must renounce their faith or face a prolonged and agonizing death.


6. All About Love

Yes! A South African film in cinema’s. That should be more than enough motivation to get yourself a ticket.

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Synopsis: ALL ABOUT LOVE is an amazing love story shot in the vibrant city of Johannesburg, South Africa. The movie explores the interesting, bitter-sweet, sometimes difficult –but always instructive-journeys of the heart.

7. Going in style

A heist comedy that stars Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alin Arkin. It’s like sweet music to my ears!

South African release date: 26 April 2017

Genre: Comedy

Synopsis: Lifelong buddies Willie (Morgan Freeman), Joe (Michael Caine) and Al (Alan Arkin) decide to buck retirement and step off the straight-and-narrow for the first time in their lives when their pension fund becomes a corporate casualty. Desperate to pay the bills and come through for their loved ones, the three men risk it all by embarking on a daring adventure to knock off the very bank that absconded with their money.


8. Bleed For This

This film got good ratings after its release in the States therefore it must be worth watching.

South African release date: 28 April 2017

Genre: Biographical Sports Drama

Synopsis: Vinny “The Pazmanian Devil” Pazienza (Miles Teller), a local Providence boxer, shoots to stardom after winning two world title fights. After a near-fatal car accident leaves him with a broken neck, he is told he may never walk again. Against all odds and doctor’s orders, renowned trainer Kevin Rooney (Aaron Eckhart) agrees to help Vinny return to the ring just a year after the accident for what could be the last fight of his life. Based on a true story.
